Blog Your Blessings: One Line That Says Everything

This week's blessing is an image I saw on Michelle's blog. It is a picture of an unkempt, bearded, barefoot man sleeping on a park bench with a cardboard sign in front of him that says, "Traded everything for love."

I love everything about this image: the romantic spirit, the peace, the freedom.

I like the idea that trading everything for love is worth doing even if it costs you the socks and shoes on your feet.

I found myself wondering who, aside from the sleeping hippie in the picture, does this. I thought of the people I know: my parents, who bend over backwards to help with their three grandchildren and to enjoy their company; the parents of terminally ill children who have invested their own lives into the well-being of these kids; parents who set aside personal goals to raise their kids; a friend who invests all her resources into the well-being of sick and abandoned animals; military personnel who lay it on the line all over the world and do good in ways we never hear about.

Then, of course, the obvious paid me a visit: Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi, Mother Teresa....

Trade everything for love. It's doable.

  1. Sandy, someone at another blog posted pictures of some of the Olympic athletes and said she loves seeing their family members crying with joy. It occurred to me that those family members are athletes of the spirit. They have to support the passion of their family member 100%. Another way of trading everything for love. As is the life of the physical athlete. So much to love. So much to trade for that love.

Beautiful post, and as ever, stunning photograph.

  6. how true, maybe that's what it's all about-life learning to forget ourselves in service to others. but it's a high goal.

  8. Your words are beautiful... and many opf the comments are full of insight.

As for me... I think love IS everything.

Trading all kinds of "stuff" for love is no big deal to me... trading love for all kinds of "stuff" would be both foolhardy and tragic.

  9. we should always remember love, and to do things out of love, rather than for any other reason...

  20. What else but love is worth having?

P.S. Sandy, depending on which list we are to believe on the OSI blog, tomorrow's prompt is EITHER Homecoming (top most prompt list, OR Spectacle (calender). At the risk of looking like I've waited until the last possible moment, can you let me know which is correct? =)

  26. I'll have to think about the tie in some more -- the words are a blessing but I am not sure I see the connection between the homeless sleeper and love. I am glad you found the blessing in it tho.

I am back to blogging and have my blessing up also. I will look for your last week's post too.

  27. We saw the same picture... and yeah, had the same ideas, by the looks of it. I made a joke, but in essence, as much as sometimes it's not the right move, I'll follow love instead of logic. A goodly blessing today!

I love it. I gave it all for love myself a few times. Luckly, I grew out of it. LOL

Tuesday I start treatment for my disease. Would you pray for me, Sandy? I am scared of the disease, not getting the treatment, getting the treatment and the side effects of the treatment.
