Skywatch Friday: Newtown, Connecticut

From Miscellaneous

Deep in the woods across from my parents' home sits this beautiful field surrounded by fences and suggesting a time of agriculture and barely getting by on the land and I don't know. The sky was so busy, beautiful, and soft that it took my breath away. The ugly perk tests jutting out of the ground were a reminder that the quiet countryside will not always be the quiet countryside. Nothing gold can stay.  Thank goodness that what is beautiful now is beautiful now.

  1. My friend used to always say, "Nothing stay the same, not even Grandma's cooking." Yes, everything changes, perhaps that is why the poet, takes note, draws a circle around what is special! Thanks for the post.

  2. Unfortunately, you are so right! There's always someone just waiting for the chance to build, to change, to remove and further destroy the beauty of this country. Ah, but we still have the skies and these are awesome! Terrific capture for the day, Sandy! And have a beautiful day as well!

Nothing gold stays - but it comes back as the seasons turn.

  12. Way, way back in the middle 1960's my family road on a train all the way from Helper, UT to New London, CT (via three different rail legs).

My grandparents lived in Waterford, CT and their house sat on a big tract of land in amongst the woods. My brother and I wandered through the woods a long ways (we were Forest Service kids so we didn't mind plunging into woods we didn't know anything about.)

I understand that the woods are long gone, replaced years ago by houses, and stores.

    Sometimes progress isn't so.
