One Single Impression: Peace

From January 5, 2013
Under the light
At the other end of the couch,
My daughter sleeps.
At this end,
Her dog and I share slices
Of a smoked gouda
Until I slide his bad Dachshund self
Back under the fleece blanket,
And he sleeps
With his head resting on my thigh.
He breathes in time with my daughter
While I make these notes.
Waves of heat emanate from the furnace
And crash on the shores of their dreams
As I watch and take notes.
I have never been closer to peace.
This is a warm place.
I feel my own heart beat.

  3. I have always wondered how kids can sleep with their necks all bent like that. If I don't sleep with my head resting at a certain angle on my way-over-priced-pillow I wake up with a krick in my neck.

Thanks for sharing a part of your day and the love that went with it.

  9. What a wonderful glimpse into your warm circle of love. It is so peaceful there. The kids look worn out after their romp on the beach.

  11. And now I feel more peaceful. I agree that there is something about a child's sleep that is healing, also watching their play can be.

  16. That is indeed at peace. This time of year our dachsund spends all her time under a fleece blanket.

She is on a diet, no gouda cheese for her for a while.
